If you’re staying at Glanmedeni, you’re perfectly placed for some of the most loved beaches along the Ceredigion coast — the kind of days that start with a coffee, turn into a long sandy walk, and end with salty hair and that happy, tired feeling.
These five are all brilliant in their own way, whether you’re after a sheltered cove, a big open sweep of sand, or the best chance of spotting dolphins. All are dog-friendly in the winter and have dog-friendly areas in the summer - see local signs (usually it's dog-friendly to the right of the stream as you're looking out to sea)
1) Penbryn Beach
Penbryn is the “tucked-away treasure” beach — a gorgeous sandy cove backed by woodland and dunes, with a wonderfully unspoilt feel.
· Best for: A peaceful beach day, scenic walks, that hidden-gem vibe
· Good to know: Access is via a walk down to the beach, so pack light
· Top tip: Check out The Plwmp Tart coffee shop in the carpark - fabulous ice-cream!
2) Tresaith Beach
Small but mighty, Tresaith is a favourite for a reason: golden sand, a pretty little village feel, and a waterfall nearby that makes it feel extra special.
· Best for: A drink at The Ship Inn and watching the sunset (often dolphins too!)
· Good to know: It’s popular in peak season, especially on sunny afternoons
· Top tip: Large carpark at the top of the hill, very limited parking at the bottom
3) Aberporth Beach
Aberporth is great when you want options. With two beaches and plenty of space at low tide, it’s ideal for a long wander and a relaxed, easy-going day.
· Best for: Rock pooling, watersports/activities, SUP hire during the summer
· Good to know: At low tide you can explore further along the coastline
· Top tip: Keep an eye out to sea — this stretch is known for dolphin sightings
4) Poppit Sands
If you love wide-open beaches and big-sky views, Poppit Sands is the one. It’s a broad, sandy expanse with dunes and estuary views — perfect for stretching your legs properly.
· Best for: Long sandy walks, sunset strolls, breezy beach days
· Good to know: Crwst coffee shop in the car park for snacks/drinks
· Top tip: Bring a windproof layer; it can be gloriously wild
5) New Quay Beach
New Quay is one of the most charming spots on the Ceredigion coast — and it’s famous for dolphin-spotting - boats trips are available to book. The beaches here are smaller and more sheltered, with a lovely village vibe and plenty of places to stop for something delicious.
· Best for: Dolphin watching, coastal charm, a treat-yourself day
· Good to know: It’s a popular destination, so aim for an earlier start in peak season
· Top tip: Bring binoculars if you’ve got them — you’ll want to linger and look
